Always a pleasure to hear you playing. That Classic tight Rock sound at the end is just... hands on ! I guess it's depending on the amp and the guitar input, but somehow, I seem to prefer #32... Cheers Kris !
The Toxic Twins is my core sound. That's the sweetest and the more dynamic overdrive I ever had. When I play it, I don't hear an overdrive in my amp, I hear the perfect harmony between my guitar, my amp and my fingers, and the Toxic Twins is the link between them. I'm not exaggerating, this is really my impression when I play it, whatever guitar I plug on it.
That is such a good description of how it feels to play this pedal. It’s exactly the same for me man, it’s so sweet you don’t even think of it, you just enjoy using it. 🙌
I just came back to this video. What guitar and amp are you using if I may ask? I play a 51 Nocaster (Kris made me do it lol) and a P90 through a Vox AC15 and I think that works very well with the toxic twins. I also have a Marshal TSL in the rehearsal space and the green side is quite nice with that amp.
@@bluedawn2669 My amp is an Ampeg GVT15-112 with a Greenback Heritage speaker. Very clean amp, great pedal platform. I plug in an Ibanez JSM10, a 54 Strat and a Jazzmaster with P90s. The Toxic Twins is magnificent with all these different guitars, it can achieve a lot of musical genres.
This is a really useful comparison. Got to say though, that I prefer the original circuit. It has less thickness on the left side. The new circuit feels too mid-fronted now and that diminishes the BluesBreaker vibe that I like best about the pedal. Also, the reduced gain on the right side makes the new circuit less useful for getting classic rock tones when pushing the front of a cranked tube amp. Still a great sounding pedal but curiously it feels like the left side now colours the guitar's tone more while the right side colours it less. All IMO of course but, given the choice, I'd buy the original circuit.
Thanks a lot my dude! It’s of course always a matter of taste but for me this is exactly what I want to hear whenI play pretty much 80% of the time. The rest is fuzz. 😆
I’ve got the V2 and it’s the secret weapon of all time. It can’t be articulated with words. This pedal is so fine tuned it’s incredible. Each side is so strange but you just play and it sounds exceptional and then if you combine both sides, it does anything. I could easily see someone not getting it and selling it, but it’s one of the very best pedals I’ve ever heard.
They both sound great to me! I wouldn't say the new one is an improvement to my ears, just different. Killer tones and playing all round though!! Love it.
i love the toxic twins.. its my always on-pedal.. it’s interesting to hear how my two amps (marshall sv20 and an old orange combo) reacts differently on the two sides of the toxic twin - the blues braker on the left pushes the marshall more, while the screamer side pushes the orange more.
Hi @KrisBarocsi, excellent review as always. I'm looking for an overdrive pedal and this one is definitely in the top 3. I have an Orange CR120, which as an orange sound like all Orange amps. Even with pedals, we always notice that it is an orange amp. Do you have any idea how this pedal will affect the tone of this amp for low gains and solo boosts? And also the new Kasleder FX Vintage King? Thank you
The Right side is more Timmy like. The Timmy started life as a Tube Screamer. The Greer Lightspeed started as a Timmy than changed a few diodes to give it a bit more gain if pushed. The bottom line is there a lot of tweaks you can do to Tube Screamer and these days you can start by looking at a dozen of others from other pedals and mix and match. It is less about any serios R&D but choosing what to steal, LOL. It is getting like a guy thinking needs a different looking shirt but comes home with a T-Shirt in a different color than his last one. LOL. It is like me with a MIAB pedal. I have already sold off over 10 in the last 2 or 3 years, I still have 9 and one is just 2 weeks old. I have since found 3 more I want, LOL.
Thank you for the review and comparison! Is the right side of the pedal identical to Kasleder's Dirty Little Thing? I am wondering because the latter as a single drive costs as much as the dual drive Toxic Twins.
@@Martin23673 Hi, not at all. Especially now not, since the new right side voicing is very far from a screamer. But even on the older Toxics the right side was a little less mid humpy and more modern compared to a traditional TS. On the other hand the Dirty Little Thing is like playing an actual vintage TS808. Pronounced character, even more screamer mojo, etc.
@@KrisBarocsi Hey Kris, thank you for the clarification, this helps me a lot! I was thinking about a dual drive pedal with a Bluesbreaker-like drive on the left side and a more Klon-like drive with more body on the right side, but maybe the Toxic Twins would be right for me, too.
Hi Kris. Sounds awesome! Have you had a chance to play the J Rocket Blues Note? I'm close to pulling the trigger on that pedal and then I see this video - now I can't decide. Thanks In advance!
Hey, yeah the Blue Note is great too. In my experience the difference is that the Toxic Twins sounds even more amp like (wider frequency range). The blue note has a more pronounced midhump and sounds a bit more like a pedal drive. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not at all a bad thing. The left side of the TT is based on the blues breaker but has much more drive and low end. That makes it so versatile for me. It goes from super pretty low gain tones to proper amp-style rock drive.
Hey Kris, cool video, The Toxic Twins is a great overdrive and has a great sound. Are you also at the Guitar Summit in Mannheim next week? Cheers, David
OK, the new one, both sides definitely sound slightly better to my taste: brighter, crisper, a bit more "open". I am definitely a fan of LED diodes if any clipping diodes are used, at all, because of their higher forward voltage. I just like what they do better than silicon or germanium, for my music. The TT was already a great pedal, and the original is still a great pedal, probably the better one for you if you prefer girthier mids, but if you prefer a slightly more scooped sound that lets the highs and lows shine a bit more, the new version is the one you want.
Hi Kris, I'm a proud user of the original pedal - and you're the one to blame... my wife hates you! - and listening to the "sound samples", I think Albert "missed" on a more obvious approach. The only thing better then the left side of the Toxic Twins is... 2 left sides of the Toxic Twins!!! I would go with a double BB - like the KOT - with external switches to change the clipping options. I would place the second BB as a hard clipping and the first one with no clipping or soft clipping... how great would that be??? Cheers, HM
I live in Syracuse, NY and when i ordered my version 1 Toxic Twins a couple of years ago from Thomman it arrived in 3 days, so it shouldnt take long to get to u. Shipping costs more though
Hey Kris when should they be fully rolling out the new version? I currently have the older Toxic Twins and would love to try the new version, but i dont want to order one and get the older version. Will there be any indication on the Thomman page about which version u are buying?
Hey man, all TTs are the „new ones“ from serial number 500 (which is the one in this video). Since Thomann is waiting for the new shipment, all of those you can buy right now are already the new versions. Cheers!
I'm interested in getting one of these, but how do I know it's the new version or old version they are selling online? Color is the same right? (Shopping on thomann)
Hey, every current new Toxic Twins that is available for purchase is already the new version. They did the change at serial number #500, so mine is the first of the new batch. 👍
Concerning used pedals of the toxic twin, some look exactly like this new one and they've had for about a year. How old is the new mod?....did the mod happen with the color change or is this all very recent?
Hey, a few things: -there is no color change, all the new ones still have the faded surf green finish. My Golden pedal has a custom finish, only because it’s serial number #500. -the changes took place this year in May. So every new pedal you can purchase (every pedal after #500) have the „v2 mod“.
